Our Guest Dawna De Silva
LAURA: So this is the 21st century. This is a broad question but what is the number one hook when you see people come in. It may differ for –
DAWNA: Fear!
LAURA: A different demographic. Fear?
DAWNA: Fear!
LAURA: Always?
DAWNA: Hands down!
LAURA: Wow!
DAWNA: Because God did not give you a spirit of fear but power, love and a sound mind. And fear is number one!
LAURA: Okay. So that’s the root. What is the next immediate emotion? You know what I mean?
DAWNA: Uh-huh!
LAURA: Sometimes you’ve got to dig to find the fear. It usually manifests itself in some other way. What is that other thing usually?
DAWNA: Anger! I find that rage is, you know, and control!
LAURA: Right.
DAWNA: I find that the most controlling person you know is going to be the most fearful down inside.
LAURA: They are fearful. I agree.
DAWNA: Because they’re just like – they’re trying to arrange everything.
LAURA: Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
DAWNA: So that they don’t get hurt or – yeah, fear.
LAURA: Yeah. I’ve been that person. I’ve also said that anger is a secondary emotion. Hurt – you know anger’s easier! Hurt feels too – it feels so hard to deal with. It’s painful! So it’s easier just to get mad! So I was just curious your bent on it like with all the people that you see that come through your ministry you know fear – it’s not a surprise that you answered with that. And fear is faith in the devil I heard somebody say one time, you know.
DAWNA: Yeah. Definitely.
LAURA: And so really it’s the opposite. It’s the opposite of the faith that we’re supposed to have.
DAWNA: Yeah. I heard someone else say to me that fear is the belief that something bad is going happen. Whereas faith is believing that something good is going to happen. And so I had a friend who worked as a policeman in Iraq and he said he would get up and he would flag every morning on top of the building and he said I just wouldn’t buy into fear. I was just going to say no, something good’s going to happen today.
LAURA: Wow!
DAWNA: Yeah.
LAURA: Okay. Just now I just felt like the Lord –
DAWNA: Hah! [laughs]
LAURA: Said that –
DAWNA: [laughs]
LAURA: Yeah. That there was someone when you said that word about there’s somebody who’s controlling. They try to arrange things. They did not understand about themselves that that’s fear. Would you pray them?
DAWNA: Yeah. Yeah.
LAURA: Because that was really a moment of revelation for somebody.
DAWNA: Yeah. So I would just say if that’s you if have that sense of people tell me that I’m controlling but I don’t think I am. I just like things in order that you would actually allow the Holy Spirit right now to look past that control and the need to be in order and that you would allow Him to take care of the fears. And I just break off of you the lie that God’s going to punish you. That God is looking to change what you’re doing because you’re not doing it right. And I just release you from any negative words spoken by your parents. That your mom maybe was like you should have done this better or why did you do that? We break [snapping finger sound] off a critical spirit that’s come against you that has made you fearful of failure, that has made you want to control. And your husband is going to love it if you’re a woman married and your wife will love it if you fix all this if you’re a married man!
